Oregano contains chemicals that might help reduce cough. Oregano also might help with digestion and with fighting against some bacteria and viruses. People use oregano for wound healing, parasite infections, and many other conditions, but there is little scientific evidence to support. Anti-fungal and anti inflammation properties. In Roanga Medicine, ashes were rubbed onto scalps to cure dandruff, leaves used in decoctions to reduce fever, dysentery and diarrhoea.

Growing Conditions:
Great for use as a ground cover in coastal gardens, as it tolerates dry, windy conditions and is good for erosion control. Semi-prostrate shrub.

Full sun with good drainage however our seed stock doesnt seem to mind wet, clayey feet. It does best in a free-draining compost in porus pots such as terracotta pots.
Origin:
In the mint family Lamiaceae. Native to the Mediterranian, but widely naturalised elsewhere. Self seeds prolifically here. Oregano is a woody perennial reaching up to 70 cm tall. Purple flowers in summer. It is sometimes called wild marjoram. Both are very widely used as culinary herbs, especially in Greek, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, and French cuisine.
Oregano is a woody perennial plant, growing 20?80 cm (8?31 in) tall, with opposite leaves 1?4 cm long. The flowers are purple, 3?4 mm long, produced in erect spikes in summer. It is sometimes called wild marjoram, and its close relative, O. majorana, is known as sweet marjoram. Both are very widely used as culinary herbs, especially in Greek, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, and French cuisine. Oregano is also an ornamental plant, with numerous cultivars bred for varying leaf colour, flower colour and habit.
