Uses:
Medicinal
Mullein traditionally (not suggested) has been used to treat Asthma, Bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, sore throats and colds, wet coughs and ear aches. It has anti-inflammatory properties which have been shown to help with skin burns and staphylococcus infections.
Growing Conditions:
In sub-tropical areas it is usually an annual flowering in the first year and can be affected by wet humid conditions. In colder climates it is biennial and flowers in its second year. It prefers to grow in full sun with well drained disturbed soil.
Origin:
Mullein (Verbascum Thapsus) is an herbaceous plant with over 360 species of plant. Mullein has been around for thousands of years (Romans even use to use stalks as torches by coating in animal fat and wax). However as with any herbal medicine more research is needed to fully understand its benefits. Based on anecdotal evidence and published studies, there are no reports of major side effects from mullein, however research and check yourselves, especially if pregnant or breastfeeding.
We have both dried, oil infusions and seeds.
