Miners lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata) is a hardy annual that can be grown in New Zealand. It prefers shady, cool, and moist areas. Sow the seeds in late autumn or early spring, and keep the soil moist but not drenched. Watering overhead in the morning helps prevent disease development.

Harvesting and Use

The leaves of miners lettuce are nutritious and can be used in salads or cooked like spinach. The plant forms a mound from which leaves can be harvested freely. Its a lovely easy plant for kids to grow and harvest, with delicious juicy leaves. Available late autumn through to early spring.
