Can be grown as an annual, and this makes the artichoke a much practical crop in areas with a cold winter. However is a bienneal,
meaning two season/harvest plant.vigorous in growth & prolific in production grows to a height of 180 cm & will produce the first year from seed but is usually better when cut back & carried over to the second year. Matures second season from transplant. Can also be grown as an ornamental. Flowers can be dried and used in flower arrangements.

Harvest the flower buds when still closed tight. This improved variety is devoid of almost all the sharp spines on both the buds & the leaves.

Allow 1m between plants.
