Growing Conditions:
Evergreen spreading perennial, spreads by tubers, perfect to plant around fruit trees. Ground cover, frost hardy and tolerant of full sun through to quite deep shade. Spread on rhizomes.
Comfrey in general is great for nitrogen deficent soils, and the evergreen means foliage is available all year. Comfrey balances nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, silica, magnesium, calcium and iron. Use to make comfrey tea. We put ours with lime, and worm wee, sometimes seeweed. Or great to chop and drop on garden beds. liquid fertiliser, added to the compost heap or wilted and used to line potato trenches. Comfrey can also be grown around fruit trees as a ground cover and slashed several times a season to mulch the tree. Loved by bees. Height to 20cm. Flowering time is early spring to mid summer.
Medicinal
Traditionally roots and leaves are used medicinally either internally, or externally as a poultice.

Comfrey is one for everyones medicine cabinets. is particularly known for its healing properties for skin complaints such as eczema and for cuts, bruises and sprains and often used in balms. The plant is steeped in history and also known as knitbone because of its healing properties. DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY. DO NOT USE WHEN PREGNANT OR TRYING TO CONCEIVE. AS PLANT HAS BEEN USED AS ABORTIVE AGENT AND WHEN TAKEN INTERNALY LIVER DAMAGE. Genus name comes from the Greek words symphyo meaning to grow together and phyton for plant as the plant was believed to help heal wounds. Grown by us in Upepr Hutt.
